Devotional: Sarajevo Friendship Camp

Pause to pray with the team at noon eastern (6PM in Bosnia).

[Jesus said] But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid. — John 14:26-27

Our last camp brings together people who would otherwise be separated. Children from two schools — one from either side of the wartime siege line — will laugh and play together, along with kids from the Joy of Life special needs program. The East Sarajevo school is near the airport, just across the border in Republika Srpska. Both the neighborhood and school were heavily bombed during the war.

To the home of peace
to the field of love
to the land where forgiveness and right relationship meet
we look, O God,
with longing for earth’s children
with compassion for the creatures
with hearts breaking for the nations and people we love.
Open us to visions we have never known
strengthen us for self-givings we have never made
delight us with a oneness we could never have imagined
that we may truly be born of You
makers of peace.
— John Philip Newell
